History

The Past

The Zanfagna family has its roots in a long forensic tradition dating back to the early 1900s with Avv. Gennaro Marciano, Senator of the Kingdom of Italy and uncle of the founder. It was in the late 1950s that the law firm was founded by Avv. Gennaro Zanfagna, born in Naples in 1930 and graduated from the State University of Milan in 1955. Thanks to his expertise and vision, and his extraordinary ability to read the needs of a rapidly changing world, in just a few decades the firm became a point of reference on the Milanese legal scene, specialising in commercial, corporate, banking and bankruptcy law.

The Contemporary

In 1990, his son Renato Zanfagna, the current managing director of the law firm, graduated from the State University of Milan. His training, however, started much earlier, breathing the air of the Court at his father’s side. At the age of only 18, he began practising, learning the profession ‘in the field’ alongside his studies. This early experience enabled him to understand the inner workings of the Court, optimise processes and develop lasting relationships with court clerks and professionals.

The decision to continue his father’s profession and take over the reins of the firm in 2003 is an innate vocation for lawyer Renato Zanfagna, fuelled by passion, a sense of duty and a desire to excel in the family tradition. Burning within him is a strong desire for independence, i.e. to acquire the necessary skills to face any situation and come out a winner or stronger than before. His professional philosophy is based on a cardinal principle: being a lawyer means, first and foremost, helping people. In fact, as he likes to remind, ‘lawyer’ derives from the Latin ‘advocatus’ – one called to aid – counselor and a supporter in trials.

Thanks to the seriousness, preparation and dynamism of lawyer Renato Zanfagna and his team, the firm is today considered the ideal partner by a historical and prestigious clientele, mainly consisting of important families, banking groups and credit institutions. Concreteness and confidentiality and customised strategies remain ‘the guiding star to follow’ in the relationship with all assisted parties.

The Zanfagna law firm enjoys tackling complex challenges that require structured and creative strategies. Examples of this are the several successful cases in which favourable rulings have created new legal precedents, effectively changing established Supreme Court guidelines.

The future

Building on almost a century of experience, Zanfagna Law Firm looks to the future with the ambition to further consolidate its position of excellence in commercial, banking and bankruptcy law. The aim is to continue offering clients legal assistance at the highest level, combining high specialisation with a practical and result-oriented approach.

Lawyer Renato Zanfagna sees the future of the profession not as a challenge, but as an opportunity. He is open to the use of new technologies, perceived as an additional tool to be mastered in order to optimise work and offer an ever better service to clients.

Today, the Zanfagna Law Firm also benefits from the new generation represented by the sons of lawyer Renato Zanfagna, Michele and Gabriele, who have brought a breath of innovation and specialisation, continuing the family tradition of excellence.

With the new generation of the Zanfagna family, already established in the legal profession, the firm is ready to write new chapters in its history, in the sign of continuity with the values that have always distinguished it: competence, rectitude, confidentiality and dedication.

The firm will maintain its ‘boutique’ approach, offering a tailor-made service, a personalised strategy and an attention to detail that goes beyond mere legal practice. Lawyering, for this family, is not just a profession, but a vocation that has run in the family DNA for generations.

It represents the burden and honour of wearing ‘the suit of a lawyer.’
